DIY Japanese Rice Face Mask
FOR YOUNGER LOOKING SKIN
BENEFITS OF RICE:
Traditionally, geishas used rice brain to soften their hair and remain dandruff free. They bathed in rice water and rinsed their hair with it as well. To achieve that famous porcelain face color Japanese women filled a cloth sachet with rice, soaked it in hot water and hang it to collect that precious rice water used for face washing.

Most of us already have all the ingredients in our kitchen and all it takes is a few minutes of your time once a week.
INGREDIENTS:
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Put rice grains and water in a pot and bring to boil. Unlike regular rice cooking, you want to have excess water covering your rice. Simmer on medium until rice is ready.
- Drain rice in a strainer. You will need to take about 3 Tbsp and put it in a small mixing container. I prefer glass or porcelain and try avoiding metal containers for my DIY masks.
- Reserve left over rice water in a separate bowl.
- Add warm cream (or milk) and mix in honey. Please DO NOT heat your honey. Not only it looses its beneficial properties when heated, it is easy to overheat it and burn your skin. Your rice and milk are warm and will help your honey to melt down naturally 😀
- Use your cosmetic mask brush to apply this mask on cleaned dry skin. I like to use a fan brush like this one. You want to have your brush firm enough, so you can apply your mask easily, yet soft enough so it doesn’t damage your skin with too firm brush bristles. You are looking for the medium consistency: not too liquid so it beads off your face, and not too thick so you can’t apply this mask. Leave it on your face until it is dry. Then rinse the mask off with the rice water left from cooking. Rice water is packed with antioxidants and it will help hydrate your skin and promote better blood circulation.
- Follow with your regular cream and enjoy your younger looking softer skin! 😀
BENEFITS OF DIY JAPANESE RICE MASK:
Aside from the rice benefits mentioned above, rice water hydrates skin and protects skin from aging with its antioxidants. It also slows down melanin production, therefore preventing pigmentation from sun light exposure. You can wash your skin with rice water before sunbathing. It will lock in that moisture and will prevent forming of new wrinkles.Rice water can be stored in a fridge for up to 4 days. You can use it as a toner twice a day. You can also freeze rice water and use them for the beneficial face and neck area massages. It’s best if you cook rice immediately prior to use.
